The Executive Management Committee of the Ijaw Nation Development Group, an apex body of the Ijaw People’s Assembly has paid a condolence visit to Mrs. Rosemary John Oduone (Áwėkėré) to commiserate with her on the death of her father, the Amanyanaowei of Amassoma.
The team led by the Director of Education, Research & Planning of INDG/IPA Sir Sterling Ayebaemi Ellis described the late king as a big loss to Ijaw Nation.
Speaking thereafter, Ellis lamented the passing of the monarch, describing him as a revered king who would be sorely missed.
“I bring you the condolences of our President, Benjamin Nanaghan, and also from the management and members of INDG”
According to him, “We, the entire members of the INDG/IPA, posthumously thank the Great AMANYANAOWEI OF AMASSOMA, for the rare opportunity of etching his incomparable character during his sojourn on Earth as he commences another divine journey in the other divide of transitional experience.”
In her response, the daughter of the late monarch, Áwėkėré commended the delegation of INDG/IPA for creating time for the visit. She lauded the management of INDG for promoting Ijaw rights, advocating good policies and good governance on all matters that affect Ijaws, and describing the group as an agent of Ijaw unity and development.
While speaking on the legacies of her departed father, the great Amanyanaowei of Amassoma she said,” the passion of her father for the progress of Ijaw land exuded in key areas of concern such as a timely educational intervention, implementation strategies for Ijaw Nation, specific youths sustained economic development cutting across the nooks and crannies of the entire geospace and the requisite reorienting of the collective mindset of our Kit & Kin to eschew the current palpable entitlement mentality that pervades our clime in other to effectively achieve the exponential growth and development of the Ijaw Nation.”
In response, Sir Ellis, presented a glowing overview of an enduring yearning and belief in the actualization of the late King’s aspirations through proven State of the Art strategies that include international collaboration, understanding, and cooperation, moving forward.

The condolence visit which was at the residence of Áwėkėré in Sun City Estate, Abuja, FCT, Nigeria, commenced at exactly 6:00 pm on 27th August 2022 with INDG Director of Legal Services, Dame Julie Donli Okah in prompt attendance.
