Mourning the Tragic Loss: INDG Joins Ijaw Nation, Extends Condolences to Barrister Smooth and Mourns the Passing of His Band Members

The President of the Ijaw Nation Development Group (INDG), Prof. Prosper Ayawei, and the entire members of INDG stand united with the Ijaw nation in extending heartfelt condolences to the renowned Ijaw and Niger Delta musician, Barrister Smooth, on the devastating loss of six members from his band. The tragic incident occurred in a ghastly motor accident along the Lokaja-Abuja expressway on Sunday, June 11, 2023, as they were en route to honor an official invitation to perform during the inauguration of the 13th National Assembly.

In a statement issued by INDG President Prof. Ayawei on Wednesday, he expressed profound grief and offered his sympathies to the families of the deceased. “This unfortunate and sorrowful event has shaken the entire Bayelsa State and beyond.

The loss of these vibrant young talents is not only a tragedy for the Niger Delta region but also a significant blow to the Ijaw nation. They were not only artists but also breadwinners, contributing to the cultural heritage and economic prosperity of our community. Their untimely departure has left a void that will be deeply felt.” He said.

“During this time of mourning, we fervently pray that the Almighty comforts the grieving families as they navigate through this painful loss. We also extend our prayers for the swift healing and recovery of those who were injured in the accident. May they find solace and strength in the love and support of their community.

Barrister Smooth, the leader of the band, carries an immense burden of grief and sorrow. We offer him our deepest condolences and stand in solidarity with him during this difficult period. May he find the courage to overcome this tragedy and continue to inspire others through his music and talent.”

“It is essential for us as a community to rally together in support of the affected families and to honor the memories of those who have departed. Let us remember their contributions and celebrate their lives, cherishing the joy and passion they brought to our lives.

In times like these, it is a testament to our resilience as a people to come together, offering comfort, strength, and assistance to those in need. As the Ijaw nation mourns this tremendous loss, may we find solace in our shared bonds and emerge stronger, united in our determination to preserve our cultural heritage and uplift one another.”

As we collectively grieve, let us keep the departed souls in our thoughts and prayers, and may their memories be a guiding light for us all. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
