The Ijaw Nation Development Group (INDG) is mourning the loss of one of its esteemed members, Barr. Veronica Bamuza-Mutu. The news of her passing was announced on Friday, 28th April 2023, at the Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital in lle lfe. The entire Ijaw Nation and INDG community is deeply saddened by the news, and we extend our condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones.
Barr. Veronica Bamuza-Mutu was a trailblazer in all affairs concerning the ljaw Nation. She was the first and only ljaw Female Commissioner in the old Bendel State, and she contributed significantly to the development of the Ijaw communities. She was also, the first legal Adviser to the ljaw National Council (INC).
Her involvement in the affairs of the INDG was notable, and she was a Co-Coordinator with Dr Joel Bisina (INDG/IPA BOT MEMBER) for the successful compilation of the Students and Artisans for the recent INDG/IPA Scholarship and Artisan Training Programme.
Barr. Veronica Bamuza-Mutu’s contributions to the INDG will always be remembered. She was committed to the organization’s goals and worked tirelessly to achieve them. Even in her sick state, she was concerned about the launching ceremony that was held on 15th March 2023 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Her passing is a great loss to the ljaw Nation, and the INDG community, in particular. She was a remarkable woman who inspired several generations of ljaw ladies. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of ljaw ladies, who see her as a forerunner in the development affairs of their community.
The INDG community will miss Barr. Veronica Bamuza-Mutu dearly, and we offer our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and loved ones. We will honour her memory by continuing the work she was so passionate about, and we will strive to achieve the goals she worked so hard to accomplish.
May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
